Case StudyNo.4
With Care Medical Co., Ltd, Tokyo
Empowering Lives Through Comprehensive Rehabilitation and Care Services
Located in Tokyo, WithCare Rehabilitation Center is a pioneering facility dedicated to advancing rehabilitation and care services. The success of the center is driven by the vision and expertise of Mr. Hiroto Sendouda, a physical therapist with over 30 years of experience.
Throughout his career, Mr. Sendouda has worked extensively with patients suffering from neurological disorders such as strokes, Parkinson’s disease, and pediatric paralysis. Recognizing the need for a comprehensive approach, he sought to integrate rehabilitation with caregiving services, culminating in the establishment of WithCare.
Since its foundation in the 2010s, WithCare has become a trusted name in the community, offering services that range from home-based rehabilitation to specialized in-facility care. Its patient-centered approach has garnered high praise from patients, families, and medical professionals alike.
Tell me about the business overview.
Mr Sendouda“One of our core business is home-visit nursing and rehabilitation services in With Care Medical. We assist elderly people and children with paralysis in their homes, providing care and support to the local community.
2nd core business is “Third-Party Evaluation for Welfare Service in Tokyo”, which is commissioned by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. It involves evaluating whether services at facilities for the elderly, daycare centers, and similar organizations are being operated appropriately.
The 3r part is managing this center, where you are visiting today. Additionally, we engage in consulting for rehabilitation and care services, not only in Japan but also in China, through the JWC Rehabilitation Management Association.”
What inspired you to enter the care business?
Mr Sendouda“I graduated from a university and obtained my license of Physical Therapist 30 years ago. In the first half of my career, I focused on treating neurological disorders, such as strokes, Parkinson’s disease, and pediatric paralysis. For the first ten years, I was completely dedicated to honing my skills as a therapist. Over the next 20 years, I shifted my focus to learning how to integrate the expertise of my therapist career into care services. Reflecting on it now, that has been the journey I’ve taken.”
Why did you choose OG Wellness?
Mr Sendouda“From the beginning, I was impressed with their service staff’s response and the after-sales service they provided. I’ve been observing their dedication for years. For me, purchasing decisions cannot be based solely on the product.
It is important to ensure that after-sales service is guaranteed. That made OG Wellness my only choice domestically.
After starting work in China, now for eight years, I’ve also come to value how they cater to the rehabilitation market there. As someone who not only manages a center but also works as a rehabilitation professional, I’m often asked for advice on selecting equipment from both a clinical and management perspective.”
“In China, when people want to start a rehabilitation facility, they often ask me what equipment to purchase and what diseases or conditions to focus on. Almost 90% of the time, it’s about neurological diseases, like strokes and Parkinson’s disease. In China, the prevalence of genetic neurological disorders is much higher than in Japan.
Naturally, the effectiveness of care and rehabilitation for such conditions is critical. There are hundreds of machines which are cheap, but the quality is very poor. On the contrary, OG Wellness stands out because they are a rare Japanese manufacturer capable of providing aftercare even in China.”
“In rehabilitation, combining human effort with reliable, high-performing equipment is key to providing stable quality to patients. OG Wellness delivers machines with robust durability, backed by evidence-based data on lifespan and performance. Something I find invaluable.”
How do you use Quattromano?
Mr Sakamoto“We use Quattromano for various purposes. “Initially, we use it to relax the body
and then proceed with muscle stimulation or other treatments. Some users prefer to use it after exercise to relax before heading home, and we implement it based on their needs.”
How do you manage two Quattromano machines?
Mr Sakamoto“When lying down, it’s often difficult to use just one direction. We’ve arranged the machines in both sides, so that they can accommodate both right and left hemiplegia, making it easier for users to lie down or get up comfortably.”
What are the users’ impressions?
Ms YamazakiMany users express a desire to extend the standard 10-minute session. Because it is a facility for the elderly, there are people with various diseases. For example, it is easy to use for people with orthopedic diseases, intractable neurological diseases, strokes, etc. The machine is very popular, with feedback like, ‘Can I do this longer?’ or ‘It feels amazing. Sometimes users even comment, ‘The pain feels gone!’ after a session.
What do the staff think?
Ms YamazakiAlmost all staff use it, especially when they have back pain or stiffness. They often take quick sessions themselves after work.
Mr SendoudaThe Quattromano water pressure therapy device is particularly effective for people with systemic paralysis caused by neurological disorders, such as strokes or Parkinson’s disease. It also helps alleviate muscle tension from conditions
like shoulder pain or back fatigue. Of course, it’s effective for people with simple issues like shoulder pain or back stiffness caused by muscle fatigue.
But if that were the only benefit, I wouldn’t have gone out of my way to purchase it. What’s truly significant is its effectiveness for paralysis caused by neurological issues. This paralysis leads to reduced blood circulation, which in turn causes joint stiffness and a lack of flexibility in muscles and ligaments. This machine alleviates these issues definitely. Once the stiffness eases, patients can start using their joints again.
